Observing note
Eleven stars stand in a line like spines on a shelf, and the twelfth leans out of the row at an angle the engraver measured carefully and refused to correct. Someone, the margin note says, came back to the small town for that one. A northern summer plate, low over the hardware store, best after the diner has closed.
