Plate XXXVII — Midnight Letters (the Long Distance Pair)

Observing note

Separated by the width of a hand held at arm's length, the two stars of this pair are nonetheless gravitationally bound, and the chart draws the proof: a trail of faint stars between them like letters crossing in the post. The margin carries dated entries, each one written at midnight. A southern winter field, best when you are the only one awake.
