Plate XXIV — In Every Season (the Circumpolar Lantern)

Observing note
Most constellations leave. This one does not. The Lantern sits close enough to the pole that from a certain latitude it circles the same church spire all year, present in spring mud and August dust and the first snow alike. The astronomer-poet charted it over four seasons and admitted in the final note that she had stopped checking the coordinates and simply looked for it on the way home.
